Thoughts on Silver Sparrow

4/5 stars

This was a very.. interesting book. It takes place between the 70's-80's in Atlanta. It is about a bigamist who juggles his "real" family and his secret family. The story is in two parts from the perspective of the daughters from each side.

The first part is the perspective of Dana, and life in secret with her mom. They are kept hidden, but they know the real of their situation whereas Chaurisse (the other daughter) and her mother are kept in the dark. It is really easy for me to connect most with Dana and her mom, but I think it is important that we see them both tell their stories.

I found myself picking sides at different times of the story- but ultimately I was bitter towards their father, James. I really enjoyed the conversations this book inspires. James is the reason for these families turmoil, but Jones shows him in a very fond way in the eyes of both of the girls and both of the wives. She plays with the grey areas of relationships and morality that I find contribute to very interesting discussions.
